New Version Of Our Site!

by Jim Harold on October 25, 2009

I started playing with the look of the site this morning, which turned into a whole new design! So, if things look a little different don’t be alarmed…its Jim getting in touch with his artistic side.

It is still a work in progress, so pardon our electronic sawdust & let me know what you think!

Today, The Paranormal Podcast and Jim Harold’s Campfire were both featured on iTunes’ front podcast page under “Scary Stories”.  Very exciting!

As a result, The Paranormal Podcast had its biggest download day ever and both shows reached their highest numbers to date on the iTunes Charts!

The Paranormal Podcast is the number 5 UPDATE: NOW NUMBER 4 Science iTunes podcast today (as of 10/21).

Jim Harold’s Campfire is number 2 in Personal Journals.  What a great day!

Thanks to everyone for your support, I think we are on the brink of “taking it to the next level”!  I hate cheesy cliches, but in this case it seems to fit.  Thanks again to all!

Promote The Shows – Use These Flyers!

by Jim Harold on August 8, 2009

We have created a couple of flyers so you can promote the shows if you’d like.  Please give to your friends either electronically or in printed form!  There are two versions for your word spreading pleasure. Click on the thumbnails below to download the PDFs.

These would be great for those of you who are in paranormal organizations and want to let your friends know about the shows, you can hang them up in your cubicle at work, share them at conferences…use your imagination!

As Halloween approaches we want to kick up promotion a notch. Thanks!

NOTE: We have discontinued this feature

We are experimenting with Ning’s social community building software and have started Paranormal Place.  There you will be able to meet and interact with other fans of the shows.  Let me know what you think and if it is a good idea.  Check it out and join up for free at paranormalplace.ning.com

Big Book Contest Two! Promote The Show!

by Jim Harold on April 23, 2009

UPDATE: The contest has ended.  Thanks to all who participated.

This was so popular last time we did it we are doing it again.

We wanted to get folks excited about promoting the show so this is what we devised. We have quite a few paranormal books here at the studios that we are finished with but that are in great condition so we thought we’d have a little fun once again.

Here is your assignment should you choose to accept it:

1. If you enjoy The Paranormal Podcast and/or Jim Harold’s Campfire and are 18 or older go right now and do something tangible online to promote it…post a blurb about on applicable online communities (Twitter, Facebook, myspace, online paranormal websites) where folks into this topic matter connect (no spamming please)

2. Email your friends (who are into the paranormal) a note about the show with a link to JimHarold.com (again, no spamming)

3. Tell your friends who you actually interface with in person (imagine that in this day & age)!  I know a lot of people enjoy paranormal radio & TV shows but don’t even know that programs like The Paranormal Podcast and Campfire are available free of charge on the net!  Log them on, burn them a CD, show them the way!

4.  Click on the ShareThis link under our show posts and spread the paranormal goodness!

4.  Keep your promotional activities legal, ethical and please act within the guidelines of good taste and common sense.

5. Send an email to paranormalpodcast@gmail.com with the subject “Big Book Contest 2″ and a description of what you did to promote the show(s)

Voila!  You will be entered in a random drawing to win a grab bag of assorted paranormal books courtesy of The Paranormal Podcast that will be shipped to you at no cost.  Sorry, but due to the realities of shipping we can only extend this to our US listeners. You MUST be 18 or older to participate.  The deadline is 12am (US ET), May 11th.

Finally, even if you don’t promote the show you can send in your note and we will still enter you in the drawing — but that wouldn’t be any fun, would it?

More Download Issues – FIXED

by Jim Harold on March 27, 2009

UPDATE:  The problem appears to be resolved.  Latest show appears to be working now…sorry for any inconvenience…kudos to Libsyn for quick turnaround once they were notified.

ORIGINAL POST:  My host, Libsyn, which has been fantastic overall for the last 3 1/2 years is having a bad week and experiencing trouble again with my files. It appears to be a system wide issue impacting multiple podcasts.  Thanks to all of you who have reported issues.

I have notified them and hopefully this will be fixed soon.  As best I can tell, this is only impacting our latest show.  Thanks for your patience.  If this continues to be an issue I will be looking for alternatives but I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt…they have been quite good overall.  Sorry for any inconvenience!

Please Help Us Expand

by Jim Harold on March 14, 2009

I have been thinking long and hard about introducing new features to the site. My ideas are these:

  • Some form of video (possibly a transmission of the show taping via UStream)
  • A second podcast (with a separate feed) that compliments our topics here
  • An email newsletter

If we do these it wouldn’t be all at once but there is something that is holding us back.  Plain and simple, we do not have the resources to expand without your help.  If you are a fan of the show and want to see more content there are a couple of things that you can do.

  • Amazon.  This one is easy.  If you are planning on buying a book, or a piece of electronics and don’t need it that day please take a look at our Amazon.com store and links.  Amazon has great selection, prices and delivery options.
  • Secondly, you can always click one of our donate buttons to show our support.  PayPal accepts major credit cards so it is very easy.  Every amount, no matter how small helps, and now we have a recurring donation option which is a painless and easy way to show support.

We appreciate you and please know we agonized before writing this post but we cannot expand without your help.

We are in a tough economy and if you are reading this and have your own negative situation (job loss, etc) please do not give this a second thought.  Thanks for listening and now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Help For Zune Listeners

by Jim Harold on February 12, 2009

UPDATE 2#: The problem appears to be fixed! I just tested it and had to resubscribe but once I did it worked fine. So, if you are a Zune listener and you aren’t getting updated podcasts, I suggest that you search in the Zune marketplace, find the show and resubscribe. Please let me know how it works for you and thanks to the Zune team!

UPDATE: A member of the Zune team has contacted me via Twitter and is working this issue. Kudos to them for their responsiveness. Stay tuned. I will post details once they are available.

ORIGINAL POST: It recently came to my attention that The Paranormal Podcast has not been updating in the Zune software since the beginning of 2009. So, Zune users are under the false impression that we have had no new episodes since then. The appears to be non-related to our recent RSS change because the problem pre-dates it and iTunes switched over with no problem. I will continue to attempt to get in touch with Microsoft and, in the interim, if you are a Zune user, I would suggest just adding the following RSS feed manually to your software (I know it has worked for others): http://jimharold.com/?feed=podcast

I apologize for any inconvenience and we will do our best to address the issue as soon as possible. If anyone knows how to reach Microsoft Zune Podcast Support please let me know.

Thanks,

Jim

Spreading The Word

by Jim Harold on January 18, 2009

At The Paranormal Podcast, we don’t have those big marketing budgets but we do have something much more important…you!  We want to spread the word about the show but we only have one way to do that…you!  Do you see a trend here?

If you enjoy the show, please tell 5 friends who you might think might enjoy it as well.  We know we can grow our audience but only with help from…guess who?

Thanks,

Jim
