Hi Jim, I’m still enjoying the show(s) ! I particularly enjoy The Camp fire because I love to hear people’s strange experiences.Brilliant work Jim and I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year sir .Cheers
I enjoyed the podcast with Mary Crain as I do all your podcasts. However, I would like to point out that contrary to the popular notion that December 25th is not Jesus’s actual birthday, there is good evidence that it is. I am not fanantically attached to this idea due to adhereance to tradition or religion and for a long time believed the contrary. In fact, as clergy of a ‘pagan’ group I long ago bought into the idea that this date was usurped from previous pagan ideas and pagan god birthdays. Research that I have done for a Star of Wonder program at the natural history museum changed my perspective.
There are at least three pre-Constantine writers who place this birthday on December 25th. But more convencing for me was the astronomical/astrological evidence. (I am both avid skygazer and practicing astrologer). On December 25th 2BC, Jupiter (the prime canidate for the Bethlehem star) stood still over Bethlehem as seen from Jerusalum. Technicially speaking, it took station prior to going retrograde in Virgo the Virgin nine months after it had gone direct in Cancer (the sign of home and family). This would have been something understood by the ‘wise men’ (who incidently I have been able to associate with historically real persons). There are other historical and textual references that support this idea.
There is no absolute proof of when the historical Jesus was born (or even that he was). However, there is very convincing evidence and any statement that he was not born on the traditionally celebrated day ought to be tempered.
Thanks for the great podcasts.
