Jim, thank you for the entertaining, informative, and very controversial episode. So, how much controversy do you want in the comments section, anyway? I am inclined to agree with Patrick's conclussion, but I find the reasoning he used to get there to be a hot mess. Do you want deabtes here, or would you prefer that I just let it go?

By all means, debate!

I'm sorry this didn't generate a debate, That might have given me a chance to clean up the "hot mess" a little bit. Yes, reading what I said, it was a bit messy. Correct, but messy. I've been checking our local used book store for a copy, because I still refuse to give Friedman money, but it might be interesting to see in more detail what he claims. Still, when it comes down to it, how much could I expect from someone who claims still to believe in MJ-12? (I doubt that he actually does believe it. He has to maintain the fiction, though, because selling the idea to the credulous is a major source of his income.) And how much credence can we give someone who thinks that "science was wrong" because he can find an individual who thought television would not be profitable? As my students would say: "OMG!" Friedman's a pure crank. Either because he's delusional or because he has to keep up appearances to keep the gravy train rollin'. I don't know which. As I said, it's all Bollocks! :-)

And having said all that, I'll also say thanks for the entertainment. Jim, you do a good job interviewing, and although I don't "believe" much of what I hear on your show, I still enjoy listening. Most of the time. And I appreciate your bringing on the skeptics occasionally. That takes some stones, given your likely listenership. Hope you'll keep doing it.

Bollocks. I haven't read the book, because I'm not giving Friedman any money, but one would think that in a podcast like this, the most compelling points in the book would be the ones discussed. Given that, the book must be total crap. The fact that "science" learned over time is exactly what science is about. Incremental accumulation of knowledge does not mean "science was wrong." I suppose Friedman thinks Newton was "wrong" because relativity came along and refined our understanding. Bollocks. The fact that some individuals didn't expect TV to be profitable is an example of "science" being wrong? Bollocks. How can he even say this crap? The fact that there were some individuals with moral understandings that we now find justifiably objectionable means "science was wrong?" Bollocks. How about Friedman being wrong? How about the utterly discredited "Majestic 12" documents? Discredited not just in the eyes of skeptics, but by the vast majority of UFO believers, whom you would expect to support their veracity. I don't know if Friedman is stupid or lying about "MJ12," but if anyone is wrong, Friedman is at the top of the list. And his examples of "science" being wrong are apparently (going by this podcast) completely bollocks. "Science" isn't right or wrong about anything. Individual humans may be right or wrong about particular points, but the fact that Friedman generalizes that "science" was wrong is simply more evidence of his total inability to display discernment. Utterly bollocks. (And whoever that woman was, she made no useful contribution at all. Why even bother having her?)

Thanks for putting in your .02, and for the use of the word "bollocks" as punctuation. It made me smile.

Science doesn't know squat.

What is cutting edge now will be outdated in a few years.

TRUE science is all about NOT KNOWING - but discovering ideas, etc., and having those ideas evolve when we gather new information.

Awesome and intelligent guests. Their research and ideas are very educational.
